New Carpet Brings on a Table Makeover

I bought a pine table a few years ago to put in my office. I collect typewriters and adding machines and wanted a place to display them. This table wasn't the perfect size, but it was $30 and I figured we could make it work. So we 'made-do' with it until a couple of weeks ago when we had to clear the room out for new carpet.

Here it is right before my husband started working on it...  It was all this color and quite large.  (I looked and looked for a 'before' picture, but I guess I always knew it wasn't right and didn't take any pictures!)

After he cut off 12" from the width, he routed the edges and sanded everything down.

He primed all of the lower pieces.

Then several coats of white paint were applied.

The top got stained.

Then everything got put back together.

Bailey had to be right in the middle of the action...

The new size works so much better in this room.  I love the dark top too!

Thanks for your visit!

Simple Spring Table

I am so excited for nice weather to arrive!  It's been beautiful here for the past few days, but snow is forecast again next week, so we're not quite there yet.

In the meantime, I can make my dining room feel like spring.

I started with white dinner plates and added these yellow salad plates from Pier 1.  I found the plaid napkins at HomeGoods.  The napkin rings were an eBay purchase a few years ago.

The tulips and daffodils are looking so pretty.  I'm excited that this picture shows the sky at "Blue Hour".  I learned about that from  Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch.

Our dining room is the first room you see when you walk in.  It's so fun to see the spring colors in here!

Thank you for your visit!  Happy Spring!!

A Barrel of Possibilities

A few weeks ago I was out garage-saling and found these two barrels for $1 each.  Of course I snatched them up!  The girl asked what I had planned for them?   I told her I wasn't sure, but figured that I could use them out in my yard to hold plants, or turn them over to set plants on top...  I then realized that they could work as little end tables in the house.

I started by sanding them.

I applied a coat of Pre-Stain.

I stained them with Minwax Provincial.

I'm very happy with the dark color.

I put this wire cloche and birds' nest on top of one of them and it's done.  Not a bad table for $1.    Now I have to find a place for the other one.

Thanks for your visit!
